Horizontal navigation as a Link Category

In the top of your MeetingPoint you can make use of a horizontal navigation bar, just below the header. There are two types that can be used, a normal category (see Horizontal navigation - Category) or a link category. To benefit more possibilities, use a link category.

- To get a horizontal navigation bar go to the “Links” menu in the admin panel
- Click on “Categories” and then on “Link Categories” in the horizontal navigation
- First add a link category here. Fill out two things, the name (horizontal navigation is most easy to remember probably). And then choose rating in the “Sort Order” menu. This is important because it will give you the opportunity to set the order of the items in the horizontal navigation as you want it.
- To add this link category click on “Add Category”

Now you have to add the items to this new category. This can either be normal categories which you already use in the MeetingPoint, or they can be links to someplace else. As long as it has a URL it can be added.

For external links just take the URL. As external link you can for instance use

  • The URL of the MeetingPoint itself to use as HOME button in the horizontal navigation
  • The company website.

For internal links it is the same. Just go to the place that you want to put in and use its URL. Every post, category or page has its own URL and can therefore be used.

To add links…
- Click on “Add link” in the horizontal navigation
- Here you can give in

  • The URL
  • A name that will be used to display
  • The (link) category, you choose the just added link category (horizontal navigation)

- Lower on the screen you can set the rating. This rating orders the links you add, going from 0 - 10 and 0 being the most left one on the horizontal navigation bar.
- Don’t forget to put visibility on “yes”
- Then hit “add link”.

Repeat this for all the links you want to put in the horizontal navigation.

- Now go to the “Options” menu and click on “Template” in the horizontal navigation
- Select your horizontal navigation category in the second box of the “Horizontal navigation (either Category or Link Category) menu” (The first box is for horizontal navigation with a normal category).
- To finish, scroll down and click “Submit”

If you go back to the homepage of your MeetingPoint now you can see the horizontal navigation just below the header.
