What to do about spam?

spamSpam, unfortunately this is one of the things that comes with having an open website. But where there is a decease there is a cure….so also for this one!

First of all, if you have an open 2Yellows MeetingPoint we advise you to always set your settings in such a way that that spam at least can’t come direct on the homepage. And next to that you, you can add words to a blacklist.

Second, in order to prevent spam (or any other unwanted content) apearing on your homepage be sure to check these two settings:
- Go to the Admin panel and click “Options” in the horizontal navigation
- Then go to the “General” menu (click on “General” in the horizontal navigation) and check the box “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”
- In the Discussion menu the box “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” must be checked

From now on new participants on your site have to be checked the first time they want to contribute. Their comments will go to the “awaiting moderation” screen.

see Awaiting moderation

Second, by using a blacklist you can prevent certain comments from even going to the moderation room. Text (also URLs) in comments matching words placed in this blacklist will be deleted from the system right away.

- You can find the blacklist if you scroll down in the Discussion menu

!!! Be carefull which words you use, because also “normal” comments containing a matching word will be deleted!
